She's on fire!

My girl is good! She's 9 weeks and ROLLING!! WOOT WOOT! Emma has quickly discovered how to roll from her tummy to her back. She can roll to her right and her left! She's a total champ! I'm working on getting the roll on youtube. Mike's trying to get it in the right format, so once we do, I'll post that. In the meantime, there's a slideshow below. In other news, Emma had her first shots yesterday morning. Her appt. was at 7:50, which meant we had to wake her up to take her. Which meant she screamed the whole way there, and most of the way through her check up. We finally got her calmed down and smiley just in time for her to be stuck three times!! Poor girl! She never screamed like that before. I'll never forget the look of terror that hit her face...she's so expressive with her eyes, and she just looked so horrified and upset. It was awful. They did it as quick as they could, and quickly passed her off to me. It was traumatic for us both!! But, Emma is usually very smiley! It's just hard to catch it on camera, because my camera has a pre-flash and it freaks her out, and she stops smiling!! And thanks to Chrysta and her Gripe water suggestion, her tummy issues are doing much better! And Chrysta, you were right, the Baby's Bliss stuff is MUCH better than the Little Tummy stuff!!

And so it starts...

I had an experience today that I'm sure every mother can relate to. However, it was a first for me, and kind of shocked me.

Today was the first time I took Emma to the grocery store with me. And I was appalled by the numerous strangers who thought it was totally normal and ok to make comments about me and/or Emma. And the grocery store was rather empty today, so I'm almost afraid to think what it would have been like, had it been full!

The first interaction happened like this...
lady: What a cute little boy you have!
Me: Oh thank you, but it's a girl!
lady: Really? She looks like a boy.
Me: Nope, she's a girl. See, she's wearing pink!
lady: Still looks like a boy (followed by a long, dirty look at me)

I should note that this lady was elderly. You all know how I feel about the elderly. So I'll leave that one at that...

Second interaction happened as I was scanning the soy milk products. It was about this time that Emma started freaking out, because she was a tired little baby, and just couldn't fall asleep this afternoon. So, random middle-aged guy walked up behind me. I should note that he had NO cart, NO basket, and NO items in his hands. He was also NOT trying to purchase any soymilk products, so I'm not even sure why he was at the store.

guy (with a grimace on his face): She seems unhappy
me: Yeah, she's sleepy and needs a nap
guy: (no words, just keep grimacing and leaning over my shoulder to stare into her car seat)
me: (no words, pick up my silk, and start to walk away)
guy: (still grimacing) Hmph.

Um, ok. Sorry my baby cried. If it BOTHERED you, maybe you should have walked AWAY from the baby, instead of TOWARDS her. Oh and buddy, lose the 'tude.

Last interaction occurred as I was standing in line to check out, and Emma was still screaming.

lady: Oh, what a cute baby! How old is she?
me: thank you! 8 weeks!
lady: Maybe she is hungry?
me: No, she's just tired.
lady: Maybe you should feed her!
me: Uh, she just ate, she's really just tired.
lady: Oh well maybe you could try, she seems hungry.
me: Huh. K.

Really????? Is it NORMAL for strangers to say things like that? Seriously???

Boo

Banner days at the Sage household.

Mike has been sick for the past couple of days. But he's on the upswing now. I, however, am on the downswing, and feeling worse every hour. And I'm pretty sure Emma's feeling it to, because she's been exceptionally cranky due to some tummy issues since very early Monday morning. So I have been handling her cranky sleeplessness by myself, since I didn't really want Mike passing his germs onto her. But apparently that was pretty futile. But thankfully, Mike is on the upswing, like I mentioned earlier. And he was able/willing to stay home from work today to watch Emma. And he stayed up with her while I got some much needed sleep last night. I slept for 6 hours straight, which is about double the maximum amount of consecutive sleep I've had since she was born. So that was pretty amazing. It's weird, I've always loved a good nap. But when your life is split up into nothing BUT a series of naps, they don't seem so great!

Anyway, Emma did fall asleep on the couch for several hours with Mike, so he got some sleep, too:) She's just been having issues once we put her down, because she's not yet quite able to soothe herself back to sleep when a toot or poop wakes her up. And her tummy has been really tender, so we just really feel for her right now, because there's not too much we can do:/

Just thought I'd share this with all ya'll who think I'm some sort of magic mother, or that I just have it so easy. I'm definitely still adjusting to this motherhood thing, and taking my lumps. I'm sure all you mothers out there feel me..fer realz. So please don't be hatin'.

Oh Sweet Merciful Crap!

I don't know why I titled this blog the way I did, but I did.

So, 2009 is upon us, and I feel as though it's been a good long time since I've had a substantial post. So here is my best sleep deprived attempt...

Christmas. Was. Awesome. Yes, yes it was. Anna and her gang and Chrysta and her crew all made the trek to PA for the millionth annual pukefest bonanza. Honestly, the pukefest part didn't seem nearly as bad this year, but maybe that's only because I wasn't part of it. Anyway, it was a BLAST having all the Kilgore gals back together again. So much went on, so much fun was had, so much goodness all around, that it just seems too overwhelming to even TRY to chronicle it all via blog-o-sphere. So I won't. Just suffice it to say that it was Awesome-O. Of course we were all sad that Jerry and his crew couldn't make it like they'd planned, but we're just glad that their car is now functional at least. And of course we were bummed that Sam and K's brief stop off didn't happen, due to the freak-of-nature-flight-cancelling-airport-shutting-down snow storms that engulfed the East Coast as they were intended to arrive. And also, we would have liked to see Carl and Scott and their respective crews, but are just happy that they were able to spend time with their own families, and that all had a healthy, happy and safe holiday.

As far as 2009 is concerned, we are looking forward to watching little Miss Emma continue to grow and develop. She is really starting to smile now. And not those random facial twitch smiles...actual REAL smiles in response to a stimulus. It's awesome. And she's really starting to just make noise! I think she realizes now that she can make sounds, and it's wonderful to hear all the different sounds she comes up with! She's about 10 pounds now, and is getting longer and longer each day. It was wonderful, if not exhausting, to share the holidays with her for the first time. Having a kid definitely changes the dynamics of a holiday, in an awesome way. We are so thankful for all that 2008 brought us, and can't wait for what's to come in 2009.

So, here's hoping that the rest of you had holidays that didn't suck, and that your new year won't either!!

PS - I'm blogging on the new Dell Mini 9 laptop that Mike got me for Christmas. He's the awesomest!
